Sanskrit Translations to the Lyrics of Reema's CD: Truth Love Creation!

1. Sri Krishna Sharanamama : I come under your protection, Krishna, surrendering to you.
Radha Sham : Radha is Krishna’s consort and Divine love.
Sham is another name for Krishna.

***
In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna teaches of duty, love, nonattachment and deathlessness. Our duty is to follow our true nature without hesitation. One of Krishna’s messages is that if you have the courage to allow every action to stem from the core of your being – a place of truth, love, creativity and authenticity - then you will always be protected and rewarded.

The yearning Radha and Krishna have for one another is the same longing we all have to unite with the Sacred in any of it’s forms; one’s true Self, one’s true love, the Great Spirit, the Divine part of any being.

2. Lokāh Samastāh Sukhino Bhavantu
May all beings everywhere experience happiness and freedom.

***
Originally, yoga was practiced to awaken peace, strength, and knowledge within to create harmony among all people, plants, animals and forms of nature. The earliest yogis were dedicated to living in harmony with the cosmic order. Establishing balance within is only the first step in yoga. Living in harmony with nature is the ultimate objective.

3. Om Arya Sumati Dharma Dhāra Huung
Dedication to the Buddha, and all those whom he inspires.
This mantra is the spiritual name of Geshe Michael Roach. It helps one to perceive the ultimate nature of reality.

***
According to yoga, reality is experienced through the heart as opposed to the mind, which is conditioned by outside influence.
When you have the courage and discipline to look inwards, you begin to distinguish between that which comes from a place of truth (within the heart) and that which is a reflection of cultures and societies that shape our thoughts. As the mind quiets in the silence and stillness of meditaion, the heart opens and we experience deeper and broader levels of reality.

4. Mahamrtyunjaya Mantra
The Great Mantra of Immortality

Om Tryambakam Yajāmahe
Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam
Urvārukamiva bandhanān
Mrtyormushiya māmrtāt.

We worship Shiva, Lord of the three realms, as the sweet-smelling flower that spreads its fragrance in all directions. Shiva exists as the illumined soul (atman) in all of creation. The inward dwelling spirit, Shiva, nourishes and sustains the body and all matter. Just as the ripe cucumber is severed from the bondage of the creeper, may we also be delivered from death for the sake of immortality.

***
One of the striking messages in this mantra is that it is the inward dwelling spirit or soul that nourishes and sustains the body. To experience optimal health, we must take as much, if not more time to nourish the soul as we do to nourish the body. We must balance our physical fitness with meditation and use our energy to make the necessary changes in our lives to honor the soul. This is crucial because as soon as our actions cease to be in line with our truth - who we are and what we want - the mind becomes anxious and restless. Such mental conflict eats away our energy and eventually leads to physical disease.

5. Salutation to Patanjali

Vandey Gurunām Charanāravindey
Sandarshita Svāthma Sukhāvabodhe
Nihshreyase Jānglikāyamāne
Samsāra Hālāhala Mohashānthyai
Ābāhu Purushākāram
Shunkh Chakrāsi Dhārinam
Sahasthra Shirasam Shvetham
Pranamāmi Pathanjalim

I bow with humble surrender to the two lotus (symbol of unfolding enlightenment, truth, beauty and joy) feet of the Gurus, who awaken in me the happiness of pure Being.
I take refuge in the physician of the jungle (who heals through nature), who eliminates the delusions of the poisonous herb of Samsara (conditioned existence) to reveal peace.

I prostrate my ego self before the sage Patanjali, who has a thousand radiant, white serpent heads (Ananta, the divine serpent, is the symbol of kundalini energy) and who holds in his hands a conch shell (symbol of divine sounds), a discus of light (symbol of infinite time, and the all-giving sun), and a sword (which discriminates between illusions and truth).

***
This mantra acknowledges « Patanjali » for bringing us the practice of yoga. No one knows exactly who Patanjali is, if he is even a man or a woman, or group of people, or Nature itself. It is interesting that Patanjali is referred to as « the jungle physician » because the Vedas state that the teachings of yoga came from Nature. The basis of yoga and all Shamanic practices is that Nature is the teacher and the healer.

6. Shanti Mantra
Peace Hymn

Om Saha Nāvavatu.
Saha Nau Bhunaktu.
SahaVīryam. Karavāvahai.
Tejasvi Nâvadhītamastu
Mā Vidvishāvahai.
Om Shāntih, Shāntih, Shāntihi.

Peace Hymn
May He protect us both (teacher and taught). May He look after us both to enjoy the fruits of our studies. May we work together with enthusiasm to find the true meaning of the sacred texts. May our knowledge and strength increase. May we never misunderstand one another. Om, Peace, peace, peace.

***
Protection and acceptance are requested for “both teacher and taught”. “Teacher and taught” may refer to a teacher and student, God and student, or, one’s own soul and mind. Eventually “both” merges to “one” and there is no separation between Guru and student, God and Self, or mind and soul. Before such duality ceases to be, many spiritual traditions acknowledge that there are two sides to an individual: true Self/non-self; higher Self/ lower self; first mind/second mind; Self/Other. There is often a dialogue between the two. With deep spiritual practice, the true Self - which represents freedom to be who one truly is and experience what one really wants - gains mastery over the non-self, which is shaped by outside influence. When the soul voice dominates and is understood to be one with the Divine, non-duality transcends Self and non-self. At this point, illusions cease to impede the soul’s evolution and consciousness expands without limit.

7. Lullaby
Hawa Dhire Aana
Wind, Come Slowly

Nanhi kali sone chali hava dhire aana
Nind bhare pankh liye jhoola jhoola jaana

Chaand kiran si gudiya naajon ki hai pali
Aaj agar chaandaniya aana meri gali
Gun gun gun git koi haule haule gaana

Resham ki dor agar pairon ko ulajhaaye
Ghungharu ka daana koi shor macha jae
Daane mere jaage to phir nindiya tu bahalaana
Nind bhare pankh liye jhoola jhoola jaana

Nanhi kali sone chali hava dhire aana
Nind bhare pankh liye jhoola jhoola jaana

My little bud (baby girl) is going to sleep, so please come slowly, breeze.
Come on the wings of sleep and swing her gently.
My little doll is like the soft rays of the moon. She is brought up with great care and is indulged.
Today when you come to my alley, soft rays of the moon, hum your song very softly.
If the silky rope (that pushes the swing) gets tangled in the feet or causes the small silver beads of the anklets to make a sound, my little one may wake up and you will have to pacify her. Come on the wings of sleep and gently rock her swing.

8. Prabhuji
Divine Being

Prabhuji daya karo. Mana mein an baso.
Tum bina lage suna. Khali ghut may prem bharo.
Tantra Mantra Puja nahi jaanu. Mein to kavel thumko hee manu.
Sare jug may dhundha thumko. Ab to aker banh dharo.

Divine being, have mercy on me. Come, reside in my heart.
Without you, I feel an emptiness. Fill up my hollow entity with love.
I don’t know the rituals, chants, and prayers. I just know that I believe in you.
I searched the whole world for you. Now, please come, take my hand and lead me.

***
« Prabhuji » can be translated as God, the Divine, the Sacred, the Great Spirit, Nature, or Love. One definition of the Divine is that it is an energy, the energy of love which permeates through everything and everyone. Yoga and all Spiritual practice connect us with this energy and help us to stay connected to it in the midst of all life activities and challenges. If we stay connected to the energy of love, we stay connected to the Infinite and to our own essence. The Buddhists say when we lift all layers our true nature is revealed, which is only Love. We are born over again in this world until our hearts are full with nothing but love. This connection and realization is the key to vital health because love has the power to dissolve fear, anxeity and stress, the very emotions which lead to imbalance and disease.

9. Ānando Hum
I am Bliss.
